40 cases of COVID-19 confirmed in Niagara, one new nursing home outbreak on Monday

Thorold now has over 50 known active cases of COVID-19 after the region's public health office reported another 40 confirmed cases in Niagara on Monday. The increase follows a weekend with a sharp spike in cases, largely due to over 80 cases being found on Saturday. 

In total, Niagara has 512 active cases. 

On Monday, 130 cases active cases had been confirmed in St Catharines, and 91 in Welland. Variants had risen to 274. The Woodlands of Sunset in Welland reports an outbreak at its Maples unit. 

The region's acting medical officer of health will be briefing the media on the progress of the pandemic at 12:45 today.
