Thorold flower shop brought spring to retirement home this weekend

Creekview Floral Co. wanted to give back to the community

With airtight restrictions at seniors homes across the country amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, residents at a Thorold seniors home got to experience spring blossom as a local flower shop decided to give back to the community.

This weekend, dozens of floral arrangements were seen being carried in by staff through the main entrance at Cobblestone Gardens retirement Residence, delivered by newly opened Creekview Floral Co.

The shop, run by local couple Michael and Lydia Rekrut, entered the Thorold business world with the help of a donation for their start-up when the owners of A Yellow Flower Basket retired.

"We were trying to think of ways to do something for the residents of our Thorold community, when an anonymous donor expressed interest in contributing to our small business, and this seemed like the perfect fit! To pass along this generous donation to those hardest hit by the current COVID restrictions was a no brainer! In turn, all the arrangements are made with flowers grown right here in Niagara by farmers who have also been greatly affected with many of the big box stores cancelling their orders," the couple wrote to Thorold News.

The donation was warmly received by staff and residents in a time where the pressure on frontline workers keeps building with little clarity on what is next.

A chance to use their business to spread some comfort.

"Flowers can have a huge impact and it was our way to let the folks at Cobblestone know that we're keeping them (and the staff of course) in our thoughts even when we can't visit them in person!" the couple concluded.
