Public Health reports 2 new cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday, after a three-day weekend with a single case of the virus was confirmed.

A single case was reported on Monday after a Saturday and Sunday with no new confirmed cases of the infection.

The number of active cases of the virus has also dropped to 58 after the recent jumps in the numbers drove the infections that had not yet cleared in Niagara residents over 80, according to regional statistics.

Most active cases are now found in Niagara-on-the-Lake, followed by Niagara Falls, where health officials recently urged caution after a surge in cases among residents.

In Thorold, a total of 29 residents have been diagnosed with COVID-19 since March 13, when the first case in Niagara appeared.

In total, Niagara has confirmed 869 cases of the virus in residents.

A week ago, 21 new cases were discovered in the largest single-day jump since June, when an outbreak at Pioneer Flower Farms in St Catharines lead to 60 new cases being confirmed.

Last Friday, Niagara Regions widely discussed face-covering bylaw took effect.
