NRPH confirms another case of COVID-19 in Thorold

9 cases on Thursday in the region as provincial numbers hit all-time daily high

NRPH has confirmed 9 new cases of COVID-19 in the region on Thursday - the same number as yesterday.

All municipalities are now reporting active cases, that total 131.

One of Thursday's reported cases was found in a Thorold resident, bringing the historic total to 37.

In total, there have been 1165 confirmed infections in residents.

There are 10 ongoing outbreaks, of which half are in medical facilities.

At least 65 residents have died after contracting the virus.

 

Provincial update

Public Health Ontario has confirmed 797 new COVID cases today, the highest ever reported by the public health agency in a single day. 

Today's report also includes a report of four more deaths, including three people over the age of 80 years old and one person between 60 and 79 years old. 

The province has also reported a new testing record with 48,488 tests processed in 24-hours according to today's summary. There are another 58,118 tests awaiting results. 

Of today's 797 cases, there are 331 people between 20 and 39 years old, 225 people between 40 and 59 years old, and 126 people aged 19 and under. 

Based on a breakdown provided by the province, 265 of today's cases were reported by Toronto Public Health, 134 cases were reported by Peel Public Health, and 182 cases were reported by Ottawa Public Health. 

The province has also confirmed 100 new school-related cases, half of which were identified as student cases. There have been a total of 822 school-related cases reported to date spread across 415 schools in Ontario. 

Since January, the province has reported 56,742 lab-confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Ontario. Of those, 48,308 have been reported as recovered and 2,992 cases have ended in death. 

There are 5,442 active, lab-confirmed cases in Ontario currently, including 206 people who are hospitalized with the coronavirus. There are 47 COVID patients in intensive care units and 29 of them are on ventilators.
