Niagara Public Health reports five new cases of COVID-19 on Monday after a weekend where 10 cases were discovered.

While the daily number of newly confirmed cases have increased, the number of active infections appear to have been dropping steadily.

Despite the increase since this weekend, only 46 active cases have been reported, primarily found in Niagara-on-the-Lake.

901 Niagara residents have now tested positive for the virus that has killed 64 residents, primarily in outbreaks at long-term care facilities.

Two health-care facilities are still battling the virus; RH Eventide Home in Niagara Falls and Garden City Manor in St Catharines.

Four additional, smaller outbreaks are currently ongoing in the region.

As of August 1, 51.9 percent of those who recently contracted COVID-19 had no knowledge of where they got it.
