ST. CATHARINES –  Niagara Children’s Centre is excited to announce that the 6th annual Superhero Run presented by the Viola Salter Group is still scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 3, but now it’s virtual. Last year’s event raised an incredible $85,000 to support the children and families who rely on our therapy services, making this one of the Centre’s largest fundraisers of the year.

This annual family-oriented event brings together families who are involved with the Centre and community supporters, all with a common purpose of having fun and raising funds to support Niagara Children’s Centre. Our virtual experience will be no different. Families can register for the event beginning July 6 online and they’ll receive a superhero themed t-shirt, unique medal, swag bags loaded with freebies, and a Passport Booklet to track their fun, and instructions for 10 unique activities. On the day of, they can share their pictures and videos on the dedicated Superhero Run Facebook page to connect with other families, or compete in person with others in their bubbles.

“We know this event is a favourite for the families of our Centre and members of the community,” said Oksana Fisher, CEO. “We wanted to find a way to keep the spirit alive, while respecting the recommendations of our governments and health units. We’re thankful that our supporters and donors remain committed to our mission of helping kids shine and were excited to join us again this year – socially distanced style.”

For the running portion of the event, we’ll ask families to time themselves and submit their times to our Superhero Run Facebook page. All participants will receive a t-shirt and medal this year to commemorate their participation, and we’ll be running contests for best dressed and most funds raised. The event will also have an online silent auction with tons of great items to bid on, with all funds raised from the event going towards providing therapy programs for children with special needs living in the Niagara region.

“The Superhero Run is one of our favourite family events of the year. It’s the best inclusively designed event in Niagara that is fun for the whole family regardless of ability. Most importantly, it is an opportunity for our family to support the Centre that we love and call home, as they have helped and strengthened us over the years,” shared Centre parent Michelle Sanders. “We look forward to it every year!”

We’re proud to have the continued support of our presenting sponsor The Viola Salter Group, a division of Scotia Wealth Management. “We, along with the team, made a commitment years ago that our charity of choice would be a local charity committed to our community and the children in our community.  Having worked with Niagara Children’s Centre for many years we are constantly reminded and reassured that this decision was the perfect choice. The Centre not only delivers excellence in service but does so with a high degree of integrity and care. It is a team of local professionals constantly working with limited resources yet still delivering world class results with a smile.  It is a privilege to assist this team in any way we can especially during these more difficult periods in time,” said Joseph Viola and Grier Salter of the Viola Salter Group.
