7 new cases of COVID-19 in Thorold as region sees large increase over Thanksgiving weekend

Among the 40 COVID-19 cases reported over the Thanksgiving weekend, 7 were found in Thorold residents, statistics from NRPH reveals.

In total, 45 residents have now tested positive for the virus.

Saturday saw 16 cases, Sunday 8, and Monday the count was back up to 16.

A single case was confirmed on Tuesday.

Despite the jump, the number of active cases dropped to 99 in Tuesday's update.

Residents above 80 are now reported as the primary group in which cases are found.

No new health-care facility outbreaks were reported.

 

Provincial update:

 

Public Health Ontario has confirmed 1,553 new cases of COVID-19 since Sunday. The province posted two reports today since it didn't provide an update yesterday. 

There were 807 new cases confirmed on Monday and 746 new cases confirmed today. 

The province has confirmed 12 more COVID-related deaths since Sunday, with nine reported today. The deaths reported in the last two days include four people between 60 and 79 years old and eight people over the age of 80. Seven long-term care residents are among the 12 deaths reported since Sunday.

Of the 1,553 new cases from the last two days, Toronto Public Health reported 614 cases (303 and 311 cases), Ottawa Public Health reported 235 cases (119 and 116 cases), and Peel Public Health reported 294 cases (159 and 135 cases).

In a breakdown by age, Public Health Ontario reports 56 per cent of the 1,553 new cases are individuals under the age of 40 and 15 per cent of the new cases are over the age of 60.

The province has reported 72 more school-related cases today, including 49 student cases. There have been 948 school-related cases reported since the beginning of September, and they are spread across 436 schools in Ontario.

There were another 67,706 COVID tests processed since Sunday (36,473 and 31,233 for Oct. 11 and 12 respectively), and there are at least 24,420 tests awaiting results. 

To date, the province's public health agency has confirmed 60,692 cases off COVID-19 and reported 51,729 recoveries and 3,017 deaths. Since Sunday, the province has recorded 1,292 recoveries.

There are 5,946 active, lab-confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Ontario, including 230 people who are hospitalized with the coronavirus. There are 60 COVID patients in intensive care units and 34 COVID patients on ventilators.
