26 new cases of COVID-19 reported on Friday in Niagara

NRPH reports 26 new cases of COVID-19 on Friday, up two cases from yesterday's 24.

There are now 216 active cases in the region.

One of Friday's cases was found in Thorold, bringing the historic total to 107.

There are 18 active outbreaks, of which 8 are in long-term care facilities.

Ontario update

 

Public Health Ontario has confirmed 1,855 new cases of COVID-19 today, which is a nearly 15 per cent increase over the previous daily record number of new cases. 

Until today, the province has not reported more than 1,588 cases in a single day. 

Today's report also includes a record number of tests processed – 58,037 in 24 hours, which produced a 3.7 per cent positivity rate. The percentage of positive cases is the lowest it's been all week.

Since the start of the pandemic, public health labs in Ontario have processed 6.1 million COVID-19 tests.

Ontario's public health agency has reported 20 deaths today. The deaths include one person between the ages of 40 and 59 years old, six people between the ages of 60 and 79 years old, and 13 people over the age of 80. Fourteen of the people who died were residents of long-term care facilities. 

Since yesterday, 69 people have been hospitalized with COVID-19 and 10 COVID patients have been admitted to intensive care units. 

Included in the 1,855 new cases reported today are 572 cases from Peel, 111 cases from York Region, and 356 cases from Toronto, 

There are 122 new school-related COVID-19 cases included in today's provincial reporting, including 99 student cases and 23 staff cases. 

The province reported 1,451 new recoveries today.

The number of active cases in the province (people self-isolating or hospitalized) has increased today to 13,255 lab-confirmed cases from 12,871 active cases reported yesterday. There are 541 people hospitalized with the coronavirus (down from 556 yesterday) and 151 of those patients are in intensive care units. There are 101 COVID patients on ventilators. 

To date, the province has confirmed 111,216 cases of COVID-19 in Ontario and reported 94,366 recoveries and 3,595 deaths. 

The cumulative incidence rate for COVID-19 in Ontario is 748.2 cases per 100,000 people. The weekly incidence rate is 66.3 cases per 100,000 people.
