NRPH reports new confirmed cases of COVID-19 on Monday and one new death.
Despite Monday's increase, which is one of the higher since the second wave was declared, along with this weekend's 14 new cases, the number of active cases has dropped significantly in recent weeks according to regional statistics.
There are 66 infections in residents not yet cleared, Monday's update shows.
The historic total is now 1268, with at least 68 residents passing away after contracting the virus.
The list of health-care facility outbreaks has gotten shorter, with three active outbreaks remaining.
On Sunday, DSBN reported that two cases had been found in individuals at Grimsby Secondary School and Port Weller Public School in St Catharines.
The provincial directory shows 9 schools in the region with cases of COVID-19, however, none are in Thorold.
Provincial update
Public Health Ontario is reporting 704 new COVID-19 cases, 607 recoveries, and four deaths this morning.
According to the province's epidemiological summary today, the four deaths include two people between 60 and 79 years old and two people over the age of 80 years old. None of the deaths reported today were identified as residents of long-term care homes.
There are 6,047 active, lab-confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Ontario. The province reported 26 more hospitalizations (two in intensive care) since yesterday's report. There are at least 252 patients hospitalized with the coronavirus and 69 COVID patients in intensive care, 40 of which are on ventilators.
Some hospitals (30) do not update COVID patient numbers on the weekend, so any corrections to the number of people hospitalized with the coronavirus will be included in tomorrow's update.
Fifty-four per cent of the cases reported today are individuals under the age of 40. Based on a breakdown of the new cases provided by Public Health Ontario, 244 are from Toronto, 168 are from Peel, 103 are from York Region, and 51 are from Ottawa.
The province confirmed 74 more school-related cases since the last report on Friday, Oct. 16. The cases include 48 student cases, 10 staff cases, and 16 unidentified cases. There have been 749 school-related cases reported in the last two weeks and a cumulative total of 1,312 school-related cases spread across 483 schools, which is 10 per cent of all schools in Ontario. There are four schools closed.
Public Health Ontario confirmed 10 cases of COVID at child care centres and homes, six of which are child cases. Three centres and 10 homes have closed because of COVID-19 cases since Friday. There have been 302 child-care cases confirmed to-date by the province.
The province reported 31,864 more COVID tests have been processed since Sunday's report, and another 16,303 COVID tests are awaiting results.
To date, Public Health Ontario has reported 65,075 lab-confirmed cases of COVID-19 with 55,978 of those cases now resolved and 3,050 cases ending in death.
The average incidence rate of COVID-19 in Ontario is 437.8 cases per 100,000 people.
