Free your joints, start your day the mobile way

In this week's health and wellness column, Cheryl Gordon explains how to start your day the mobile way
chair-yoga

Many of us wake up feeling stiff and, well, just old. Here is a time proven technique for mobilizing your joints, safely and pleasantly, that will get you ready for a wonderful day ahead!

The full instructions are contained in this video. You may want to watch the video first and then follow along by just listening.

This practice uses a chair for support so there is no need to get up and down from the floor. If you have no restrictions, this is another version of this Joint Freeing Series that does offer the option of being on the floor.  See video here.

The movements are all simple and just use one joint at a time. The beauty of this approach is that you can move the body in its full range of motion but with very little pressure on any one joint. Because the practice is short (about 10 minutes) it fits into just about anyone’s schedule. This is an ideal program for someone who is recuperating from an injury or illness, or who is newer to exercise programs. I use this series every day before my yoga practice or another exercise like hiking or gardening. It helps prevent injury and guides muscles into more efficient patterns of firing.

Please let me know if you try this and how you feel afterward. If you have questions or need clarifications, you can message me through this online publication, [email protected].
