LIVE: Premier Doug Ford disappointed in U.S. order to stop 3M from exporting masks to Canada

Ford also announces new emergency alert urging Ontarians to stay at home

Premier Doug Ford announced a new province-wide emergency alert Saturday, telling people to stay at home in order to stop the spread of COVID-19. 

The alert, which most Ontarians received Saturday afternoon, advises all people who are not essential workers to only go out if absolutely necessary. 

Ford also used Saturday's daily address to express his disappointment with the United States and its order for 3M to stop exporting N95 masks, calling the move unacceptable in a major crisis. 

Ford told reporters that Ontario can't rely upon another country for personal protective equipment (PPE) will produce its own masks and other PPE going forward. 

The Premier is also calling on Health Canada to expedite approvals for Ontario-based companies to begin producing masks in the province.
