LIVE: Ontario launches web portal to help businesses affected by COVID-19

Province looking for suggestions on removing barriers for businesses, including changes to provincial policy, regulations

Ontario has announced the launch a new web portal, COVID-19: Tackling the Barriers, for businesses looking to retool operations to make health-related products during the COVID-19 pandemic. 

Associate Minister of Small Business and Red Tape Reduction Prabmeet Sarkaria says the province is using the new portal to solicit requests from businesses for temporary changes to provincial rules and regulations, in order to remove barriers that hinder businesses or Ontario's supply chain. 

According to the web portal, temporary changes to policy or regulations can be made in order to:   

  • assist the health care system meet the needs of needs of the emergency
  • assist businesses in retooling or producing essential or health-related products and supplies
  • make it easier for businesses trying to operate remotely or in a non-traditional fashion and are facing unexpected challenges

Requests and feedback can be submitted using an online form.

Premier Doug Ford holds a press conference today at 1 p.m. from Queen's Park in Toronto.

He will be joined by Christine Elliott, Deputy Premier and Minister of Health, and Prabmeet Sarkaria, Associate Minister of Small Business and Red Tape Reduction, to make the announcement.

The press conference will be streamed live on Ford's YouTube channel, and Village Media will carry the livestream feed.
